SYRACUSE – Wawasee High School senior Breanna Robinson signed a national letter of intent, officially becoming a member of the Purdue University women’s swimming team for the 2015-16 season. A brief ceremony was held at the high school on Thursday. Robinson chose the Boilermakers over Tennessee and Kentucky, places she had made official recruiting visits to. She also received interest from Indiana Unversity, Northwestern and North Carolina State. “I was told ‘when it’s right, you’ll just know it,’ and that was true. I love the team, I love the coaches, I love the campus, so all in all it just felt right,” she said. With one high school swim season left, Robinson has five sectional titles to her credit, and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Time Trials. She said she wasn’t certain what events she’ll compete in as a Boilermaker. “When you reach the college level there are more events, so it really depends on where they want me,” Robnson said. “I told them I want to do the 200 (backstroke) and hopefully I can do that, but it just really depends on where they need me.” With the signing, Robinson will be free of the stress of recruiting during her final season at Wawasee. “It was hard trying to balance academics, swimming and make the decision where you’re going to go. It was very overwhelming, and it’s a lot harder than most people believe,” said Robinson. “Everyone always told me it was absolutely exhausting, and I never understood why until I went through the process. There are fun aspects to it, but it’s physically and emotionally stressful.” Robinson has also started to plan for life after her colligate swimming days come to an end. “I’d like to go pre-med, so I’m going to major in biology and see where it takes me.” Robinson’s older sister, Brittany, also signed an NCAA Div. I letter of intent during her senior year in 2012, signing with the University of Louisville.
