Posted
INDIANAPOLIS — Wawasee sophomore Bre Robinson will be the only local competitor at today’s girls swimming state finals.
Needing to finish in the top 16 at Friday’s prelims, Robinson was third in both the 200 free and 100 free and will compete in today’s championship heat in each event.
Swimming finals begin at 1 p.m. at IUPUI’s natatorium in Indianapolis.
In the prelims, Robinson’s 200 free time of 1:50.07 was behind Carmel freshman Claire Adams’ 1:48.19 and Westfield junior Summer Brown’s 1:49.84.
Robinson swam the 100 free in 50.83 seconds, just behind Penn senior Addisyn Bursch (50.71) and Mt. Vernon sophomore Clara Baggett (50.77).
As a freshman, Robinson finished second in the 200 free (1:50.63) and third in the 100 free (50.74).
Although she did advance to today’s finals as an individual, the two Wawasee relays she took part in did not.
Wawasee’s 200 free relay of sophomore Rachel Rozow, sophomore Kendra Miller, freshman Kayla Hershberger and Robinson finished 21st in 1:40.30, with the 16th-place time being 1:39.86.
The Lady Warriors’ 400 free relay of Hershberger, freshman Betsy Bowen, Miller and Robinson was 23rd in 3:41.78, while the last qualifying team finished in 3:36.34.
Betsy Rozow also competed in the 100 back, finishing 31st in 1:03.05.
For Warsaw, junior Cynthia Juarez was 31st in the 500 free (5:34.48) and junior Ashley Van Wormer was 24th in the 100 breast (1:08.65).
