Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Edmundson RoseRoberta “Bobbie” Edmundson Rose,  80, of Oswego, died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after a short illness.

Roberta was born in Anderson, on Dec. 11, 1941, to the late William C. and Laura Rarick Edmundson, the first of four children. She married Thomas Rose in Tucson, Ariz., in 1964. Her son Daniel was born in Tucson.

She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona and her medical degree from University of Arizona Medical School. Returning to Indiana in 1981 as the state’s first female orthopedic surgeon, she established a well-respected practice in Warsaw that she upheld for 30 years. She always met each of her patients with the same big heart. After retirement in 2011, she married her longtime friend Mark Burks in Warsaw.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Rose; and their son, Daniel, in 2019; and by her brother, William A. Edmundson.

Roberta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Mark Burks; brothers: Daniel (Lorna) Edmundson, of Sharon, Conn.; and James (Judi)  Edmundson, of Bristol; sisters-in-law: Sally (William A.), of Anderson; and Susan (James), of Elkhart; and their families – four nephews, two nieces, three grand-nephews and a grand-niece.

Her spirit and her example are an inspiration and a bright beacon of caring humanity to family, friends and patients. She loved cats, singing, literature, prime rib was her favorite and she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for any of her friends and family who would appear.

The funeral service will be Saturday Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. A visitation with family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel.

The family kindly request the memorial donations to Animal Welfare League Building Fund, 1048 S. 325 E., Pierceton, IN 46562.
