BREMEN – Robert W. Young, 86, of Bremen, died May 6, 2012, in his home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Chicago, to Henry and Gusta Bleacon Young. On May 9, 1948, in Mishawaka, he married Delores M. Gay, who preceded him in death.
He attended Bremen High School until he was drafted by the U.S. Army to serve his country in World War II. He received a Bronze Star Medal and an honorable discharge for his service. After his time in the service, he returned to Bremen and worked for more than 45 years at Bremen Castings. He was a proud member of the 100th Infantry Division and the Bremen American Legion. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Warsaw for more than 20 years; later he became a member of the New Life Apostolic Church in Nappanee, where he currently attended.
Surviving are two sons: Larry L. (and spouse Evelyn) Young, Nappanee, and Rodney H.H. Young, Bremen; three daughters: Cheryl D. (and spouse Greg) Long, Angola; Susan K. (and spouse Tim) Michael, Fort Wayne; Debra J. VanNess, Warsaw; a brother, Ronald (and spouse Donna) Young, Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, with Pastors Dean Anglemyer and Dan Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
