NORTH WEBSTER – Robert Ray Sherman, 48, of North Webster, died at 9:30 a.m. May 8, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 5, 1964, in Savannah, Ga., to John Thomas and Martha Frances Ray Sherman. On June 19, 1991, he married Cheryl J. Kennedy, who survives.
He graduated in 1982 from Hickory High School and served from 1983-87 and 1991-2001 in the U.S. Army, including Desert Storm. He formerly worked at Griffith’s Security, was a police officer and was a volunteer fireman all in Hickory. Moving to Kosciusko County from Texas in 2001, he formerly attended Calvary Baptist Church, Oswego, and was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cindy Sherman, at home; a son, Robert Sherman II, at home; his mother, Martha Mogray, Hickory, N.C.; a brother, John (and spouse Carol) Sherman, Sapulpa, Okla.; two half brothers, Jacob Mogray, Bergenfield, N.J., and David Mogray, Dallas, Texas; and a half sister, Mary Jane (and spouse Mike) Gouge, Knoxville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, with the Rev. Dennis Bollenbacher officiating and with a military service by members of North Webster American Legion Post 253.
