PIERCETON – Robert R. Pittenger, 62, of Warsaw, died at 2:05 a.m. July 3, 2012, in VA Northern Indiana Health Care Systems, Fort Wayne.
He was born Dec. 18, 1949, in Glasgow, Mont., to Carl and Margaret Bayliss Pittenger. On April 1, 1983, in Bremen, he married Cheryl Bowers, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a union carpenter, building schools, post offices and many different commercial buildings.
Also surviving are his children: Alissha (and spouse Eli) Shepherd, Warsaw; Joshua Pittenger, Fort Wayne; Carmella (and spouse Mike) Harnishfeger, Lindenhurst, Ill.; Rebecca (and spouse Brett) Newstorm, Gurnee, Ill.; and Karl (and spouse Maggie) DeMunda, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating and with military honors by members of Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and Indiana ARNG Military Detail. Burial will be in Veterans Circle Oakwood Cemetery.
No calling is planned.
