Robert L. McFarren, 82, of Winona Lake, died at 4:40 a.m. Jan. 16, 2011, in his residence.

He was born March 29, 1928, in Warsaw, to Vern and Leora Scott McFarren. On Sept. 16, 1950, in Bluffton, he married Betty Ann Rockey, who survives.

A lifetime Warsaw resident, he was a production worker at Litchfield Creamery, Warsaw, for 32 years until its closing in 1977; was custodian for Warsaw Community Schools for 16 years, retiring in 1993; owned McFarren Lawn Service for more than 40 years; and was custodian with his wife at Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, for more than 50 years and a past member of Winona Lake Lions Club. He was a hard worker, good husband, father and grandfather. He loved children and would hand out quarters to them. He danced with the Warsaw Squares.

Also surviving are two sons, Alan L. (and spouse Janet) McFarren, Warsaw, and Michael R. (and spouse Adrienne) McFarren, Herndon, Va.; four grandsons: Kristopher "Kris" (and spouse Dana) McFarren, Fredericksburg, Va.; Steven "Steve" (and spouse Kristen) McFarren, Kansas City, Kan.; Matthew "Matt" (and spouse Leah) McFarren, Blacksburg, Va.; and Josh (and spouse Lorie) Roth, Cincinnati, Ohio; three granddaughters: Kristie (and spouse Ian) Cleaver, Willington, Ohio; Kathryn "Katie" McFarren, Fredericksburg; and Elizabeth "Liz" McFarren, Winona Lake; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vernabell "Vernie" (and spouse Rex) Bloom, Moab, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Austin, who died Sept. 3, 1988; and three brothers: Delbert McFarren, who died June 25, 1949; Pfc. Edward Q. McFarren, who died Nov. 28, 1950, and was listed as Missing In Action during the Korean War and declared dead Dec. 31, 1953; and Ralph McFarren, who died Aug. 3, 2006.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Andy Martin of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
