Robert J. Moyer, 85, died at 9:35 a.m. May 22, 2011, in Bremen Health Care Center. He was born May 8, 1926, in North Liberty, to Josiah and Cecile Johnson Moyer. On Oct. 12, 1947, in North Liberty, he married Helen Ruth Bennett, who survives. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Nov. 2, 1945, at Camp Atterbury. He served during World War II in Germany as a clerk with the 66th Engineer ToPo. He was honorably discharged April 7, 1947, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. Living much of his life in the area, he was a draftsman at Zimmer, retiring in 1989 after 15 years of service. He was a 1944 graduate of Lakeville High School. He was a member of Bremen Church of the Brethren; a past member of Atwood Lion’s Club and Barbershop Chorus of South Bend; and an avid woodworker. Also surviving are two sons, David Moyer, Sacramento, Calif.; Jim (and spouse Tracy) Moyer, Atwood; a daughter, Susan (and spouse Ron) Coyle, Mansfield, Ohio; six grandchildren: Matthew Moyer, Roseville, Calif.; David Moyer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Chad (and spouse Heidi) Holbrook, South Bend; Jennifer (and spouse Matthew) Lala, Lexington, Ky.; Trista Moyer, Warsaw; and PFC Christian J. Moyer, Fort Drum, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Carter. He was preceded in death by a sister, Retha Hostetler, who died Feb. 28, 1996, and a brother, Richard Moyer, who died July 6, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Mike Overpeck of Bremen Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood.
