AKRON – Robert H. deVore, 88, of West Lafayette and formerly of the North Manchester area, passed at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at the Indiana Veterans Home of West Lafayette, where he had been a resident for four years.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Wabash, to Eugene and Josephine Hollenback deVore. He was married on May 14, 1948, in Wabash, to Shirley Fraley. She preceded on Feb. 2, 2006.

He was a machinist for General Tire of Wabash.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 286 of North Manchester and VFW Post 286 of Wabash.  

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He even extended his love of outdoor sportsmanship to other states.

Survivors include his daughters, LaDeanna (and husband Max) Thompson, Claypool, and Tammy L. deVore, Columbia City; son, Robert deVore, Silver Lake; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Rodean (and husband Tom) Cunha, Red Bluff, Calif.; and a brother, Rogene (and wife Linda) deVore, Eugene, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Josephine deVore; wife, Shirley deVore; and brother,  Roydene deVore

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool. Honor Guard Chaplain Jim Patterson will officiate. Graveside military rites will be performed by the American Legion.
