MENTONE — Robert E. “Bob” Mattix, 87, rural Claypool, died at 2:49 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018, at his residence.
He was born Dec 20, 1930, in Claypool, to Ralph and Neva Jones Mattix. He was married on April 8, 1953, to Margie M. Shireman, who preceded on July 30, 1997.
Bob had been a farmer and a school bus driver. He most recently delivered buses for Kerlin Bus.
He graduated from Burket High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He had attended Burket United Methodist Church.
Bob was a loyal basketball fan and enjoyed watching Tippecanoe Valley and Indiana University. He had raised and run border collies in herding dog trials.
Survivors include daughters: Dana (husband Kerry) Stogsdill, Warsaw; Sandy (husband Chris) Vogel, Mentone; and Vicki (husband Greg) Utter, Andrews; grandchildren: Brooks Stogsdill, Brandon (wife Karyn) Stogsdill, Kyle Vogel, Devin Vogel, Karla and Karl Ehlers, Jordan Utter and Zachary Utter; special friend, Doris Banghart, Warsaw; and sister, Charlene (husband Conrad) Meinert, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Neva Jones Mattix; wife, Margie Mattix; and sister, Norma Slack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, in King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Ben Pippen officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake, with graveside military rites performed by American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at King Memorial Home.
