NORTH MANCHESTER - Robert D. Steele, 88, died at 12:27 p.m. Aug. 27, 2010, at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in North Manchester, to Alfred and Ruby P. Rhinehart Steele. On Nov. 28, 1942, he married Martha E. Overholser, who died Aug. 7, 2001.
He retired from Peabody Seating Co., North Manchester, after 27 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a member of the Kosciusko County Antique Car Club. He sang in the choir at Peabody Retirement Community. He attended Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester.
Surviving are a son, Tommy (and spouse Marieta) Steele, North Manchester; seven daughters: Carolyn (and spouse Robert) Nichols, Marlena (and spouse John) Barrett, Stephen (and spouse Vicky) White, Teresa (and spouse Kent) Coble, Karen Steele, Kimberly (and spouse Jay) Vanlanigham, all of North Manchester; Connie (and spouse Keith) Lytle, Estill Springs, Tenn.; a sister, LaDonna (and spouse Lewis) Gale, North Manchester; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastors J.P. Freeman and Kurt Stout officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester.
