Robert D. Hinshaw, 88, of Warsaw, died at 5:47 a.m. Oct. 3, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Elwood, to O.D. and Louise Schmidt Hinshaw. On Oct. 4, 1942, he married Mary Ruth Ackerman, who died Aug. 2, 2005.

In September 1943, he earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from  the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy, which joined Butler University in 1944. He entered into retail pharmacy in Elwood the same year. In Elwood, he served on the board of directors and as president of the Elwood Chamber of Commerce and the Elwood Country Club. In the late 1940s, he joined Quincy Masonic Lodge, Elwood, and Scottish Rite Temple, Indianapolis, retaining membership for more than 60 years. He joined the Elwood Kiwanis Club in October 1944, serving as president in 1952 and was elected to serve as lieutenant governor of the Flying 7th Division in 1954. Moving to Warsaw in April 1969, he joined the Warsaw Kiwanis Club and served as the secretary from 1970-79. After serving Kiwanis with 45 years of perfect attendance, he took life membership status in Kiwanis International. In 1969, he joined Thornburg Drugs, retiring in 1988. At which time he started working as a pharmacist in   Kosciusko Community Hospital. Retiring in 1993, he worked as a relief pharmacist for Marsh, Pillbox, Brennans, The Medicine Shop and Hooks. He was an active retail pharmacist for more than 56 years. In 1994, he started the KCH Senior’s Club, retiring after 16 years. In 1999, he started the Prescription Assistance Program for the residents of Kosciusko County, which saved the people many thousands of dollars.

Surviving are a special friend, Norma Botkin, Warsaw. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Louise Hinshaw, who died in 1993.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Joe Wilkey officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Elwood Cemetery.
