NAPPANEE - Robert D. Crowe, 79, of 203 S. Shoemaker St., Bremen, died at 8:03 a.m. Aug. 2, 2007, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Nappanee, to Irvin and Mary Elizabeth Pfeiffer Crowe. On Aug. 16, 1953, in Nappanee, he married Mary Slabaugh, who survives.
A 1946 graduate of Nappanee High School, he earned his bachelor's degree from Ashland College and his master's degree from Western Michigan University. He received a teaching certificate from Goshen College. He received a National Science Foundation Grant from Bradley University and Butler University. He was a teacher. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Field Artillery Observation Battalion, and was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of First Brethren Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He also was a member of Brethren Men of Mission, where he served as treasurer and secretary; Promise Keepers; Nappanee Masonic Lodge; Bremen American Legion and Bremen Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Also surviving are a daughter, Arlene Siefer, Bremen; a son, John Crowe, Wheaton, Ill.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Brethren Church, Nappanee. Burial with military graveside services will be at Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to services at the church.
