INDIANAPOLIS – Robert C. “Bob” Whitlock, 73, Indianapolis, passed away Oct. 24, 2013. He was born June 3, 1940, in South Bend, to George and Jessie Whitlock. He was married to his wife of 46 years, Carol Smith, who survives. He was a 1958 graduate of Bremen High School and graduated from Ball State University in 1962 as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army after graduation from college. He managed the Connersville office of Lingle Real Estate before buying a 70-acre farm and trying his hand at farming. This entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Whitlock’s Pressure Wash in 1980. Throughout his career he was known for his character, integrity and hard work. He retired earlier this year. As a young man, he skied all summer on Dewart Lake where he helped his dad build the family cottage in 1949. His practice paid off as he was a champion water skier. He taught water skiing at Culver Academy, and enjoyed working on cars, houses and other hobby projects. He loved to fly and was an avid private pilot earning his instrument rating. He enjoyed playing golf at The Plantation in Venice, Fla., where he and Carol spent their winters. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He cherished being around his children and grandchildren laughing at family stories. Also surviving are four sons: Scott (and spouse Kim), Shawn (and spouse Gracie), Steve and Skipp; nine grandchildren: Jessica, Jack, Emma, Mae, Millie, Joe, Noah, Della and Marlee; his sister, JoAnn (and spouse David) Sellers; sister-in-law, Lynn Nestler; and mother-in-law, Lura Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents. A special thanks to the many friends and family who supported him and the Whitlock family with their prayers. The family also wishes to pay tribute to the compassionate and professional staff at Community Heart Hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis. Calling will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
