COLUMBIA CITY – Robert A. Emmert, age 70, of Branson, Mo., passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at his home.

Born on Nov. 18, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Denton B. and Mary K. Keith Emmert.

He graduated from Dearborn High School, Dearborn, Mich., with the Class of 1965; received a B.A. from Alma College, Alma, Mich., in 1969; and his M.S. from Pittsburg State University in Kansas in 1976.

On July 30, 1977, he married Carolyn Sue Grimes Cripe in North Webster, at their home.

He grew up in Dearborn and lived in North Webster from 1977 till 1985, when he moved to Fort Wayne, residing there from 1985 till 1994. He resided in Middlebury from 1994 until 2010, when he moved with his wife to Branson.

He taught at DeKalb High School, Auburn, from 1973-1975 and again from 1977-1980. He worked at Magnavox Corp. in Fort Wayne from 1984-1989, General Electric in Fort Wayne from 1989-1994 and Patrick Industries/Bristol Laminating from 1999 until 2008. He and his wife, Carolyn, were co-owners of Carobob Concessions of Middlebury for seven years, from 2002-2009. He was desk clerk for the Holiday Inn Express on Highway 76 in Branson since October 2013.

He was a member of Middlebury Optimist Club and formerly served as president of the Middlebury Park Association.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Emmert, Branson; sister, Lois Virginia (Don) Otero, Lafayette, Colo.; brothers: George F. (Jill) Emmert, Huntington; John W. Emmert, Auburn, Wash.; and Ron W. (Jan) Emmert, Commerce Township, Mich.; son, Scott A. (Jill) Cripe, Fort Collins, Colo.; and five grandchildren: Natalie, Elise and Audrey Magnus of Chicago, and Caleb and Caitlin Cripe of Fort Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Michelle “Shelly” R. Magnus.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and

1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Graveside and committal services will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mock Cemetery, CR 850E, North Webster, with Eugene Bontrager and Dr. Norman Miller officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of DeMoney-Grimes, A Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City.
