Police are searching for a robbery suspect who fled from a Warsaw gas station Thursday with an undetermined amount of cash after spraying an employee in the face with a chemical.
Warsaw police were called to the McClure Oil station at 742 E. Center St., at 4:39 p.m. after the suspect fled the business on foot.
According to police, a white male described as in his early 20s, about 6-feet tall with a thin build and blond hair, came into the business to purchase a pack of gum. The attendant told police that the man then left, but returned shortly to purchase another pack of gum. When the 39-year-old female employee opened the cash register drawer to get the man his change, he reportedly sprayed her in the face with a chemical spray, grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the register and fled on foot westbound through an alley between Center and Market streets.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene to assist the employee, whose face was red from the spray and whose eyes were swollen nearly shut and watering heavily.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a blue baseball cap, blue windbreaker, white T-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and gray/blue woolen gloves with leather finger pads.
After the incident, the business was cordoned off and shut down. A K-9 track from the business ended at Tamarack Street and an alley at a carport.
