Robbery Report Ends Up Being False

An investigation of an alleged armed robbery at a local fast food restaurant Tuesday night ended this morning when the lone employee admitted she made it up.

Warsaw police were called to the Subway in the Marketplace of Warsaw at 9:19 p.m. by the manager of the store, who was not working at the time of the alleged incident.

A 29-year-old female employee told police she was alone in the restaurant and was working in the back room when she heard the door chime, indicating there was a customer in the store.

According to the information the employee provided to police Tuesday, she went toward the front of the business and saw a man wearing a black mask with the eyes cut out and his mouth taped. The suspect also was wearing a black jacket, zipped up to his neck, a black jogging outfit and black leather or vinyl gloves.

The woman said she tried to return to the back of the store, but the suspect allegedly jumped over the counter and grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving. He then reportedly told the employee that he wanted her money and he displayed a black handgun.,

Since there was only $60 in the cash register, the Warsaw woman said the alleged robber wanted her to open the safe, but she apparently did not have access to it. She said the man then allegedly said it wasn't worth $60, shoved her in the head with his gun, jumped back over the counter and walked from the store.

City police enlisted a K-9 to search the area for a suspect, but none was located. The woman admitted this morning that she made the story up for attention and because she wanted to to be appreciated. She called her manager to report the alleged incident before police were called.

Warsaw Police Department Detective Lt. Steve Adang said that it is possible the woman will be charged with making a false police report.
