PIERCETON - No injuries were reported when an alleged armed robber fired a round inside a Pierceton business Wednesday night.
The male suspect then fled the area with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to Detective Sgt. Todd Sautter of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the suspect - believed to be in his late teens to early 20s - entered Marlene's Marathon at Old Road 30 and Ind. 13 about 6:30 p.m. and demanded money.
The lone female clerk thought the man was joking, but quickly complied with the suspect's request when he reportedly raised a gun he was carrying and told her to open the cash register. The employee told police the handgun had a long barrel. A shell casing recovered from the scene indicates the weapon was a .22-caliber.
A K-9 track of the area ended a short distance to the west, the direction the suspect was traveling when he left the business, and police believe he may have gotten into a waiting vehicle.
The suspect was dressed all in black, including a ski mask. The only visible parts were the man's eyes and eyebrows, both of which are described as being "dark." He was carrying a large duffel bag of heavy cloth.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Sautter at the KCSD at 267-5667 or Crime Stoppers at 800-342-7807.
