Roads Still Closed, Flood Causing ProblemsThough the rain has stopped, flooding continues to plague area residents, causing damage to some homes and for some residents to evacuate their homes.County dispatch has received dozens of calls this week in response to people reporting flooding near their homes and roads in the county.

In Warsaw, Sunset Drive is closed. In fact, one elderly couple had to be evacuated from their home on Sunset Drive today because of high waters.

Arthur Street, Ross Avenue, Country Club Drive and Miner Drive all were closed as of this morning. There is an access road open for residents only of Miner Drive.

In the Country Club neighborhood, located on the Warsaw side of Winona Lake, flood waters have forced some residents into leaving and is causing damage to some homes.

Julie Rankin, who lives on Yarnelle Point in that neighborhood, contacted the Times-Union this morning. Flood waters have surged past trees that are normally six feet from the sea wall. Rankin said the water is usually 18 inches below the sea wall at her residence.

In Winona Lake, St. Andrews Road, near Stonehenge County Club, is closed, as is Fort Wayne Avenue near the town hall.

"The Island" area of Winona Lake has suffered extensive flooding in areas.

As of this morning, much of the northern part of Kosciusko County escaped major flooding.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, no state roads located in Kosciusko County are closed today.

Kosciusko County Highway Department Superintendent Dennis Pletcher once again warned drivers to use caution and absolutely avoid using roads covered with water.

Pletcher cited Rozella Road, which was closed last night. Flooding caused a part of the road to be washed away. County crews arrived to put up barricades and closed signs for the road, but after crews left those barricades were removed and drivers proceeded through.

County crews, as well as Warsaw and Winona Lake street departments, are currently out putting up signs and laying down salt and sand in areas they can.
