People interested in picking up litter along the roadways can pick up safety vests and bright orange trash bags at the KC Depot, Warsaw, Friday and Saturday.
Bill and Carol Huffer of Warsaw noticed the amount of trash along county roads and took their concerns to the county commissioners a couple of months ago.
Meetings with county officials and other interested citizens has resulted in this two-day volunteer effort to clear debris from ditches and road sides.
The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District operates the "depot" at 220 S. Union St. Volunteers will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Particular efforts will be made to clean up along Old 30, Pierceton, Packerton and Crystal Lake roads. People may choose to just clean up along their own roads.
"I want everyone to be safe," said Sue Studebaker, KCSWMD director. "I highly recommend that everyone wear gloves and close-toed shoes.
"Do not pick up unusual containers, especially those full of liquid. Please be careful."
The district is providing road signs advising traffic about "litter cleanup," too.
The trash bags are free and a trash container will be available at the depot next week if people want to pick up trash at their leisure or don't make it back to the depot this weekend.
