Rita Ann Koenigshof, 82, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away surrounded by family at 1:15 a.m. Jan. 15, 2015, at her daughter’s residence in Warsaw
She was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Ashland, Ky., to Edward O. and Stella J. Blankenship Gabbard. On Nov. 11, 1955, she married Howard “Rusty” Koenigshof, who passed away April 19, 2001.
She was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 43 years, where she was a homemaker and attended Warsaw Community Church. She, along with her husband, developed Stanton Lake Estates in Leesburg as well as several other residential projects in the Barbee Lake area.
She attended Indiana University – Bloomington, was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, active in 4-H, attended the group Winning Over Widowhood, but most of all she lived for her family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Kathy (and spouse Ray) Thornburg, Summerville, S.C., and Sandy (and spouse David) Engelberth, Warsaw; and four grandchildren: Matt Sullivan, San Francisco, Calif.; Carrie (and spouse Blaine) McFerrin, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Rebecca Sullivan and Lea Gossman, both of Fort Wayne; and one great-grandchild, Sullivan McFerrin. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at noon Jan. 22 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Kevin Landis officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow in North Webster Cemetery-Mock Addition.
