BEST OF – Rise’n Roll Bakery & Deli and Lake Wawasee. What do they have in common?

They were voted “Best of Indiana.”

After counting almost 30,000 votes, Visit Indiana announced on Friday the winners for The20IN20 Best of Indiana people’s choice campaign.

Rise’n Roll was voted best doughnut shop and Lake Wawasee was voted best lake. Both of which can be found here in Kosciusko County.

"It may be hard to narrow your choice in these categories, but what's great about the ‘Best of Indiana’ is you get to learn about other voters' favorite locations and ones you might want to visit as well," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch in an email news release sent out Friday.

Taking the top spot in the donut shop category, with a record number of votes (3,935), is the Amish-run bakery Rise'n Roll Bakery & Deli. Rise’n Roll's history began in 2001 in Shipshewana. A young Amish couple started baking recipes handed down in the woman's family for generations. They sold baked goods from their front porch. They now have several locations and are known for their cinnamon caramel donut, the release states.

Lake Wawasee is the largest natural lake within Indiana's borders. You can experience Lake Wawasee on the SS Lillypad, a 110-passenger dinner boat, or rent a boat for the day, according to the release.

FARM BUREAU – On Monday, Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) was honored with the 116th Congress Friend of Farm Bureau Award from the American Farm Bureau in Wells County. The award is given to members of the Indiana congressional delegation who vote and work with the Indiana Farm Bureau on federal priorities with regard to agriculture.

“Agriculture is the backbone of northeast Indiana’s economy, and our farmers are at the forefront of keeping America great at home and abroad. I’m proud to fight for better trade deals, rural broadband, property rights and more for our farmers and am very grateful for this award! I will hang it on the wall right away,” said Banks after receiving the award.

ELECTION STATEMENTS – While voting tabulation continues in some elections across the United States – including for president – there were a few statements and other releases from winners we thought we’d share here now, as well as some from people congratulating winners.

On Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s re-election victory, U.S. Sen. Todd Young said, “Over the last four years, Gov. Holcomb has been a steady hand working to make Indiana a better state for every Hoosier. I’m looking forward to four more years of his leadership.”

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer released this statement congratulating Holcomb on a historic win: “Hoosiers have developed a personal bond with Gov. Holcomb as he’s led this state over the past four years. Tonight, Hoosiers have given the Holcomb-Crouch team four more years to keep building One Indiana for All. The historic vote of confidence of Gov. Holcomb means his singular focus throughout his second term in office will remain ensuring that Indiana and all Hoosiers continue to have opportunities to prosper."

Indiana Attorney General-Elect Todd Rokita issued the following statement (in part) with his win: "I want to thank my fellow Hoosiers for the trust and confidence you have placed in me to serve as your next attorney general. And thanks to my family, friends, co-workers, our great volunteers and all the men and women of good faith who wanted to make sure we had the best person for this important job. You know our state has come so far under commonsense conservative leadership over the last 15 years. We have become a leader in the nation in every category that matters. Now we must keep it that way. As a statewide officer holder I will continue to provide that same kind of pro-growth, limited government leadership which has allowed our state to succeed. In all things I will work to protect Indiana and put Hoosiers first.”

Hupfer released this statement congratulating Rokita on winning Indiana's attorney general race: “Todd Rokita will be a great attorney general for the people of Indiana and we’re thrilled at his hard-fought win. Todd will fight every day to protect the rights of all Hoosiers. He will operate as attorney general with a level of honor and fortitude that will make all Hoosiers proud."
