WABASH - For the casual browser or those who have an eye for masterpieces, the 84th Annual Hoosier Salon Tour Exhibition is currently on display in the Honeywell Center's Clark Gallery for all to enjoy.
This juried show - sponsored by Monica Readecki of Radecki Galleries Inc. and Charley Creek Inn - features 14 pieces of traditional and contemporary artwork designed by Hoosiers from across the state using multiple media. Included in the Clark Gallery display is artist Susan Ring of North Manchester. Her watercolor painting, titled "Sunken Treasure," was accepted into the show. The artwork will be on display in the Clark Gallery until Jan. 14."It's truly an honor to display the outstanding works of these artists," said Andrea Zwiebel, gallery coordinator for the Honeywell Center. "The Hoosier Salon has a long history of recognizing diversity and talent within Indiana's art community."
The Hoosier Salon - named after 19th century French "salons" - opened in 1925 when the Daughters of Indiana formed its first exhibition in Chicago to showcase talented Indiana artists, according to the organization's Web site.
While the annual juried art show is its main event of the year, the Hoosier Salon also operates two year-round galleries in Indianapolis and New Harmony. The 2008 juried show accepted 157 works of art from more than 570 entries. The artwork is displayed at the Indiana State Museum, with two-thirds of the works traveling to 34 tour sites around the state of Indiana, including the Honeywell Center.
Recently announced is the addition of a third year-round Hoosier Salon gallery to be located in Wabash. The Charley Creek Inn will be the location for the new Hoosier Salon gallery, according to Donnae Dole, executive director of the Salon.
"It is an honor to have such a fine home in Charley Creek Inn for our new gallery," said Dole. "Wabash County is very supportive of the arts so we feel that this location is the perfect fit for both the Hoosier Salon and northern Indiana." The gallery will be located just off the lobby of the Inn.
The Clark Gallery is open everyday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Artwork may be purchased through the Center's box office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
