AKRON – Rick Newell, 65, of 15362 E. CR 350S, Silver Lake, Disko, died at 11:33 p.m. July 22, 2011, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born May 9, 1946, in Warsaw, to John and Mildred Fisher Newell, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 19, 1996, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., he married Candi Rader, who survives.

He co-owned Silver Hills Farm, with his wife, where they raised quarter horses as well as previously co-owning Tri State Harvestor. He also sold and installed livestock feeding equipment. He was a millwright and maintenance technician at Crane Industries. He graduated from Silver Lake High School and served as a military police in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post 077 and the American Quarter Horse Association.

Also surviving are two sons, Jon (and spouse Amy)  Newell, Silver Lake, and Brian Newell (and companion Teresa Enyeart), North Manchester; and four grandchildren: Ashley, Isaiah, Abby and Catrina.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Newell Family Campground, 6003 W. CR 1500N, Silver Lake, with Pastor Frank Whitaker officiating.

Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, is in charge of arrangements.
