Rick J. McKenzie, 54, of Warsaw, passed away at 8:15 a.m. July 26, 2012, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
He was born July 31, 1957, in Warsaw, to Jack and Phyllis Shriver McKenzie. On Nov. 24, 2004, in Columbia City, he married Susan King, who died Aug. 13, 2005.
A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, he graduated from Whitko High School in 1976. He ran track, winning several ribbons and played on the first football team at Whitko. He worked in carpentry and helped his dad with farming. He worked for Guardian Industries for six years and became an ordained minister June 28, 2012.
He was a member of Warsaw Family Worship Center. He loved to race, work on cars and watching his brother and nephew stock car race. He also loved to camp.
Surviving are two children, Jearme, Fort Polk, La., and Melissa, North Manchester; his father, Jack McKenzie, Warsaw; a sister, Cathy Cox, Warsaw; three brothers, Mike Shepherd, Silver Lake, and Tony and Ron McKenzie, both of Claypool; and five grandchildren. He also was also preceded in death by his mother.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Pastor William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be at a later date in South Whitley Cemetery.
