SYRACUSE - Richard V. "Dick" Trammel, 78, of Syracuse, died April 25, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Vernon and Marjorie Dailey Trammel. On July 3, 1954, he married Marcinda Dannells, who survives.

He was raised in the Fort Wayne area, attending Central High School. He and his wife moved to Syracuse in 1958. He was a Korean War veteran, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle at the Naktong Perimeter. He retired from Wawasee Community Schools as a custodian after 13 years of service. Prior to that he worked at Overhead Door for 10 years, and as a mechanic at Cutter McCormick Motors, Syracuse. He was a member of Shepherd by the Lakes Lutheran Church, Syracuse; Turkey Creek Senior Citizens Club; Syracuse American Legion 223; and Syracuse Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Also surviving are five children: Jack R. (and spouse Michelle) Trammel and Kim Marie (and spouse Brian) Tucker, all of Syracuse; Marjorie "Marge" Emerick, St. Augustine, Fla.; and Thomas (and spouse Stacey) Trammel and Lorna (and spouse David) Coy, all of Albion; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Lou Davis and Sandy (and spouse Thomas) Boyes, all of Ravenna, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Russell Trammel; his beloved stepmother; and three grandsons, Thad Van Sickle and Neil and Richard Trammel.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shepherd by the Lakes Lutheran Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Jerry Winegarden officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with military honors.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse.
