INDIANAPOLIS - Richard "Rick" Lee Overman, 65, of North Webster, passed away Dec. 22, 2010, in the Methodist Hospital Yellow Rose Hospice, Indianapolis, after a six-month battle with complications of cancer.
He was born July 11, 1945, in Peru, to Lee and Evadean Taylor Overman. On June 10, 1972, he married Toni Walters, who survives.
He was a 1963 graduate of Eastern High School, Greentown, and a 1968 graduate of Purdue University School of Engineering. He worked as an engineer for 40 years for Delco Remy Division of General Motors, Anderson, and Delphi Corp., both in Indianapolis and Kokomo. He was an avid and enthusiastic volunteer. He was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church and had been active and served in many positions in the United Methodist Church and the Christian Church. He was a member of the Purdue Chapter of Triangle Fraternity and worked with the Purdue Chapter as an alumnus for many years and also served on the Triangle National Council. In 2007, he was named one of a hundred outstanding Triangle Men of the Century. He was a member and served as president of the Anderson Community School Foundation, and he supported his sons as an active volunteer in the Anderson Highland High School Band Boosters. He was the chairman of the executive committee of the Epworth Forest Property Owners' Association.
Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Ryan (and spouse Kelli) Overman, Carmel, and Evan (and spouse Christi) Overman, Warsaw; two grandsons, Julian Brian Overman, Carmel, and Ian Taylor Overman, Warsaw; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Walters, Kokomo; a sister, Sue (and spouse Bruce) Baebler, St. Louis; a brother-in-law, John (and spouse Lynne) Walters, Chesterfield, Mo.; a niece, Dr. Megan Baebler; three nephews, Brad Baebler and Tyler and Bradley Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Ronald Lynn Overman; and his father-in-law, Leon Walters.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at North Webster United Methodist Church.
Calling is one hour prior to the service and following the service Sunday at the church.
