Richard R. Guffey Sr., 67, of 1024 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:46 a.m. Aug. 6, 2008, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born May 5, 1941, in Henry County, to George Lewis and Margaret Guffey. On Dec. 27, 1980, in Warsaw, he married Karen J. Utter, who survives.

Formerly of Elkhart County, he moved to Warsaw in 1979. He retired from T&M Rubber, Goshen, after 18 years. He also was a truck driver for Classic Transport, Elkhart. He was a member of Warsaw Church of God and American Legion Post 49. He retired from the U.S. Armed Forces after 22 years. He served in the Marine Corps, U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Also surviving are four sons, Richard Jr. (and spouse Julie) Guffey and Robert (and spouse Tracey) Guffey, all of Elkhart, and Michael Utter and James Jr. (and spouse Amy) Utter, all of Warsaw; two daughters, Terri Ditton (and companion James Hodges Jr.), Warsaw, and Kristian Hall, Panama City Beach, Fla.; a sister, Virginia (and spouse Terry) Benn, Cromwell; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Jerry Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of Warsaw American Legion 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126.
