NORTH MANCHESTER – Richard Lamar Miller, 75, North Manchester, died at 9:18 p.m. May 25, 2014, at Banner Hospice, Sun City West, Ariz.
He was born Feb. 14, 1939, in Emma, to Milo and Ruth Hostetler Miller. On May 29, 1960, he married Mary N. Dyson, who survives in North Manchester.
He was a 1957 graduate of Shipshewana-Scott High School, received his bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1961, and his master's degree from Ohio State in 1966. He was a teacher and coach for the Manchester Community School system for 38 years. He was the track and cross country coach 28 years, with 19 consecutive cross country semi-state appearances, 15 consecutive cross country conference titles and 11 consecutive track conference titles. He was the founder/director of the Manchester Cross Country Invitational 27 years.
Also surviving are three children: Michael (and spouse Joy) Miller, Coralville, Iowa; Cynthia (and spouse Steven) Stichter, Etna Green; Marla (and spouse Mark) Meyer, Neenah, Wis.; nine grandchildren: Zachary, Madeline and Emma Miller, all of Coralville; Daniel (and spouse Emily) Stichter, Bourbon; Stephanie and Sarah Stichter, both of Etna Green; Kelsi, Luke and Jacob Meyer, all of Neenah; two great-grandchildren, Adylyn and Elias Stichter, both of Bourbon; and two sisters, Cecelia (and spouse Maurice) Berkey, Goshen, and Kathleen Peterson, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. June 15 at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 Beckley St., North Manchester, with a private family graveside service. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
