Richard K. Mayhugh, 87, of Warsaw, died at 6:15 a.m. Aug. 1, 2010, in his residence.

He was born June 24, 1923, in Francisville, to Glenn and Alta Robinson Mayhugh. On Dec. 20, 1947, in South Bend, he married Berniece Shepherd, who survives.

He lived in various places including Francisville, Pulaski, Gilead, South Bend and Warsaw. He was a personnel manager and shipping foreman at Gatke Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church and American Legion Post 49, both in Warsaw. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 71st Division, 66th Infantry Regiment Anti-Tank Crew in the European Theatre from 1943-46. He graduated from Gilead High School in 1941 as class president and graduated from South Bend College of Commerce.

Also surviving are a daughter, Connie (and spouse Garry) Himes, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Bethany (and spouse James) Weddell, Fishers, and Matthew (and spouse Rachelle) Himes, Warsaw; and three great-grandchildren: Alexis, Morgan and Nolan Himes, all of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military graveside services by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
