Richard John StrongSYRACUSE – Richard John Strong, 78, of Syracuse, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at his home with his wife of 55 years.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Gerald W. and Adelia K. Semrad Strong.
He graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee and attended Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. He was married on Oct. 23, 1966, in Syracuse, to Nancy J. Clark, who survives. He lived all of his life in Milwaukee until he moved to Syracuse in 1997 after accepting a job with Walmart.
He retired in 2014 from Walmart in Goshen, where he was a produce manager, fresh foods merchandiser for northern Indiana and then the assistant store manager. He was also the former owner/operator of Strong’s Foods in Milwaukee, was a produce purchaser on the Chicago Market for Eastside Foods in Wisconsin. He also worked as a realtor for Wes Culver Real Estate in Goshen.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Strong, of Syracuse; three daughters: Wendy Strong, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Heather Strong, of Seattle, Wash.; and Andrea (Nathan) Lesnett, of Seattle, Wash.; two sons: Ryan (Maria Moses) Strong, of Seattle, Wash.; and Kevin Strong, of South Bend; two grandchildren: Forest and Kedryk; two brothers: Gregory (Patti) Strong, of Amberg, Wis.; and Douglas (Clair) Strong, of Pewaukee, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Syracuse Cemetery.
