Richard Glenn Engle, 91, of 5056 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw, died at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.
He was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Akron, to John W. and Alice L. Ervin Engle. On June 30, 1946, he married Audrie Mae Murphy, who died in May 2006.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he was a heavy machine operator for Phend & Brown Inc., Milford. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the First Armored Division in Italy, Germany and Africa from 1940, until his honorable discharge in 1945. He attended Cook's Chapel and was a member of American Legion Post 49, both in Warsaw.
Surviving are a son, Steven R. Engle, Syracuse; two daughters, A. Christine (and spouse Kent) Ellinger, Bourbon, and Gloria (and spouse John) Lowman, Burket; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur D. Engle, Wyoming; and four sisters, Ethel Truex, Atwood, and Eva Trip, Joanna Garee and Betty Hoppus, all of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Marvin Lowman officiating and with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
