Rhodes To Coach At Penn

OSCEOLA - Former Warsaw boys basketball coach Al Rhodes appears ready to join his third team in three years.

The 1970 Penn High School graduate is expected to be introduced as his almu mater's newest head coach today at 2 p.m. during a press conference at the school.Rhodes spent 22 seasons as the head coach at Warsaw Community High School, compiling a 405-133 record, picking up 14 sectional championships, 10 Northern Lakes Conference titles, seven regional championships, four semistate crowns and the 1984 state championship.

Rhodes resigned after the 2002 season, in which Warsaw finished 21-3.

Following a year away from coaching high school basketball, he moved on to Logansport, where he coached four years, posting a 39-47 mark.

Following his four years in Logansport, he moved on to Fort Wayne Northrop last season, turning a team that had gone 6-35 in its previous two seasons into a 10-12 team.

During his time at Warsaw, Rhodes called plays for 10 all-state players, six Indiana all-stars, three high school All-Americans and two Indiana Mr. Basketball winners.

Rhodes resumé includes an overall record of 454-192 and an accomplishment of coaching the 2005 McDonald's All-American game, held at the Joyce Center at Notre Dame.
