WABASH – Brian Regan is a very animated stand-up comedian on stage. He doesn’t stay in one spot, isn’t afraid to use broad animated gestures and his whole show ties in together really well. Although as Regan will tell you, his comedy transitions could use some work, though that makes it even more hilarious to listen to if you get a chance to see his show. Watching him perform at the Honeywell Center in Wabash Sept. 8 was like watching a 12-year-old tell a series of stories. It would have been impossible not to laugh through his performance if you tried. Regan began by talking about September and how he doesn’t know how many days the month includes – much like the rest of the 11 months. But his mom does with a trick on her knuckles. Right away, the laughs started rolling out of the audience, and when he added inflection and accents to his dialogue, the laughs grew. I can’t remember a segment of his show where at least some people in the audience weren’t laughing or chuckling. From the calendar, he went into talking about time zones, with the audience attentively following along. That’s the thing about Regan. He can talk about ordinary life subjects and still get an audience to belly laugh along with him. Whether it’s calendars, time zones, cuckoo clocks or newspapers, he makes the ordinary funnier than one could think possible. I’d definitely go hear him perform again. Opening up for Regan was Joe Zimmerman, who has appeared on Comedy Central and Conan O’Brien. Regan couldn’t have asked for a better opener as Zimmerman got the laughs started. He started off by talking about Googling Wabash to find cool things to do in the city and found the No. 1 thing was – the Honeywell Center. “So we’re good. We’re doing it. I’m excited,”?he said. He then went into talking about how he “got” ADD. He went to see the doctor and told the doctor he thought he had it. The doctor asked him if he had health insurance, and when Zimmerman said he did, the doctor told him he had ADD. The laughs continued from there. I would go watch Zimmerman perform again if the opportunity arises.
