WABASH – The Rev. Roy Burkhart, 90, of LaFontaine, died at 11:50 p.m. Feb. 11, 2012, in Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, LaFontaine.
He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Harlan, Ky., to Joseah and Mallie Duff Burkhart. On May 6, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he married Liddie Rose, who survives.
His first job in Indiana was at Litchfield Creamery, Warsaw. He was ordained into the pastorate in 1955 and served in Freewill Baptist Churches in Claypool and Columbia City for several years.
Also surviving are four children, including Mallie (and spouse Richard) Trump, Tippecanoe; three brothers, including the Rev. Chad (and spouse Avo) Burkhart, Claypool, and Donald Burkhart and Solomon (and spouse Katie) Burkhart, all of Warsaw; a sister; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with the Rev. Donald Arms officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.
