Rev. Albert Whitaker

The Rev. Albert Whitaker fought and won the ultimate battle April 25, 2010. His vision became a reality. He went to be with his Lord and Savior at 9 p.m. in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to James and Catherine Miller Whitaker. On Aug. 16, 1943, in Prestonsburg, he married Cynthia P. "Pearlie" Prater, who survives.

Living in Warsaw since 1941, he was founding pastor at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church and the Lighthouse Christian Academy, both in Warsaw. He served as pastor for 29 years, retiring in 1988. he also was a former pastor at Quickstop Pentecostal Church, Alger, Ohio, and Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake. He was a member of Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw, and was an evangelist for 13 years, holding revival services across the Midwest.

Also surviving are three children, James E. (and spouse Barb) Whitaker and Arnetta Kay (and spouse Tom) Miller, all of Warsaw, and Samuel J. (and spouse Jennifer) Whitaker, Claypool; two brothers, Robie (and spouse Becky) Whitaker, North Manchester, and Delmar (and spouse Sylvia) Whitaker, Warsaw; a sister, Avanell Hoska, Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw, with Pastors Eugene Haney and Don Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
