Olympic gold medal gymnast Mary Lou Retton's visit to Biomet, Warsaw, has been rescheduled for Oct. 15.
Retton, Biomet's national spokesperson, was scheduled to visit Biomet Sept. 16 to help celebrate a grand opening ceremony for the company's new Orthopaedic Skills Academy.
Retton was unable to make the ceremony due to her family being evacuated as a result of Hurricane Ike.
"We apologize for any inconvenience caused by rescheduling this event due to the effects of Hurricane Ike," said Stacey Jones, Biomet consumer marketing director.
Retton, 40, received a Biomet M2a-Magnum metal-on-metal hip replacement hip June 2005 at age 37.
An open house will be Oct. 15 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Biomet, 56 E. Bell Drive, Warsaw.
Retton will speak at 5:30 p.m. about her experience with receiving a hip replacement.
An autograph session open to the public will follow.
Tours of the new academy also will be available to the public.
The $3.5 million academy in Warsaw opened Aug. 1 and is on the east side of Biomet's main building.
The 27,000-square-foot facility features two instructional labs and a 48-seat auditorium with power point screens.
