Restaurants

I am writing today about the lack of good service at our local food establishments. I will not name the restaurants that I speak of, but I am sure that many of you have witnessed or even been a victim of such shoddy service. Whatever happened to serving the customer?

It seems that lately the service at out local food establishments have dropped from fair to poor. While, yes, we do have a few higher-end eateries that provide great food and great service in the local area, we in the Warsaw area have seen a decline in good food and fair prices with good service. All too often we seem to settle for less than warm food, or the order is wrong, or the server is less then excited to serve you.

Before moving to the Warsaw area, I owned and operated a family diner and we did very well. Our food was good at a fair price and our service was always right up there. If we had a customer with a special request, we did everything we could to make it for the customer. Here, it seems that the server is bothered by something as easy as "no onions, please."

What ever happened to checking the food before it goes out? Where is a manager when you need one? What we do see are servers standing around in a corner joking around while your drink is sitting empty, and when they are called over they are bothered that you are asking them to do the job in which they have been hired for.

I know and understand that food service does not pay much of an hourly rage. As far as I know, it is still below $3 an hour. Yes, people, less then the state minimum wage. So the server needs to make up the difference in tips. All too often, these same servers need to split their tips with cooks and the host or hostess. So you would think that they would make sure the order is correct, that they bring the right food to the correct table, that they make sure the customer is happy with everything, and that they a friendly and polite to the customer, and that they pay attention to what they are doing - not worried about the cute guy at the other table or when they get to leave so they can go to this "great party." This way they might get a better tip and not lose so much in tip shares.

People, I am saying that we, as customers, have rights and we are paying for a service. We need to stand up and demand better food and better service than what we have grown accustomed to in this city.

We can do a few things. We can stand up and do just that, or we can just stop spending our money at the local food establishments, or we can go another town and enjoy good food, service at a fair price and, while we are driving, we can spend some good happy family time. It is your choice.
