An employee of Wong's Restaurant, 835 Anchorage Road, Warsaw, was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot Tuesday night as he was leaving the business.
Ting Zhen, of Lydia Drive, was leaving the business through the back door with a brown briefcase containing $2,000 in cash and checks as well as a personal checkbook and a business checkbook from the restaurant. As Zhen walked to his vehicle, he saw a man walk out from behind another vehicle parked next to his. The man was wearing a dark tan ski mask and a dark shirt, possibly blue or black.
Zhen noticed that the man was carrying a handgun. Then the man pointed the blued revolver in the air, fired one shot and grabbed the briefcase.
The man, described as 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, with a small build, then ran around the corner of the business and got into a gray or silver van that was waiting for him at the entrance to Shamrock Trailer Court. The van was last seen traveling eastbound on Anchorage Road.
After the briefcase was taken, Zhen went back in the business and told his partner, Jian Zhen, what happened. They immediately called 911.
Because Ting Zhen does not speak English, Jian Zhen, Westwood Road, Winona Lake, interpreted statements for Kosciusko County Sheriff's officers.
The incident remains under investigation, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the robbery to call 574-267-5667. The Warsaw Police Department and Indiana State Police assisted the sheriff's department with this case.
