Editor, Times-Union: Mr. Kolbe: I’ll begin by enumerating some of the points you stressed. *This country is in trouble. *You are not a “poor loser.” *The real loser in the election is democracy. *A vibrant democracy consists of dissent, dialogue, compromise, free press, checks and balances, an embrace of truth – none of which can be tolerated in extremist regimes. *The Nazis rose to power within the political structures and few perceived the danger of Nazis. I’m not suggesting the same would happen in America, but I am saying it “could” happen. *Perhaps, in the words of Norm Chomsky, the most dangerous organization in the world today is the Republican Party. *To even use that name represents a bit of farce. *I am a Democrat and believe in the importance of the average people and a labor force blessed with a living wage. *Trump’s accumulation of wealth is a stunning example of ruthless capitalism rooted in exploitation of the weaker. *With Trump’s victory we see the same hints of far right extremism: proof of racism, anti-Semitism, white supremacists. *In the place of reason today are anger, fear and divisiveness and the church is complicit. Your position, Mr. Kolbe, is indeed one of a pathetic loser, or perhaps delusional, but more likely a very angry, hypocritical, frustrated, member of the party responsible for much of what exists in this divided country today. You profess to be a Democrat who believes in pro-life. That is such a contradictory position. Through your support and encouragement tens of millions of innocent babies have been murdered in today’s holocaust that transcends any other act of evil, and Mrs. Clinton would have accelerated the rate of executions. Your party through President Obama and his minions is solely responsible for the racial divisiveness and increasing attacks on our police. To then allude that Christian Republicans are hypocrites is a personal attack on me. To suggest the most dangerous organization in the world is the Republican Party suggests just how far out of touch you are, Mr. Kolbe. I suggest ISIS, Hamas, Boko Haram, communism, Hezbollah, Palestine Liberation Front, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, al-Qa’ida, Islamic State of Iraq, al-Shabaab, and Army of Islam are a few of the State Department designated terrorist organizations that just might be considered a little more dangerous than the Republican Party. Finally, to compare the Republican Party with the Nazis is really a pathetic reach for the leader of any organization to make. Gregory Smith North Webster, via email
