Reserve Officer Shoots Self In Hand

CROMWELL - A reserve officer with the Cromwell Police Department accidentally shot himself in the hand Friday afternoon at his residence.

Aaron R. Knisely, 21, of North Enchanted Forest Lane, told a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputy that his 9 mm handgun discharged after he loaded the magazine and placed it in the gun. He was getting ready to go to work for the police department when the 3:55 p.m. incident occurred.

Knisely suffered a gunshot wound to his left hand, just below his little finger. The discharged bullet was recovered from a bedroom carpet and the weapon was turned over to the Cromwell marshal.

Information as to whether Knisely received medical attention was not available.
