SALT LAKE CITY - A Whitko High School teacher hopes to teach lessons beyond the classroom about the mission of the nations' third-largest political party.
Steve Sponseller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sponseller, Warsaw, received two fifth-place awards at the Indiana State Fair, Indianapolis, in the halter and driving competition with his pony "Princess." A senior at Warsaw Community High School, Steve has been active in 4-H horse and pony for nine years. He also won first place in woodworking for a coffee table he fashioned out of a wagon wheel.
Patricia Scherer, of Silver Lake, has been named as one of five girls from the entire state to receive a $100 scholarship awarded by the Indiana State Fair Board. Pat, who will enter Purdue University this fall, is the county dress revue grand champion. During her eight years of 4-H club work, she completed 50 projects and won several other contests.
J. Glee Miner, of Warsaw, won the prize in a blind bogie golf tournament held Saturday at the Wawasee golf course. Others from Warsaw who played in the tournament were George Franklin, Clarence Maish and Sam Friedman.
