    The Mentone Girls' Softball Travel Team was undefeated in regular season play in the North Manchester 18-and-under league. The team went on to win the season-ending tournament without a loss for the second-straight year. Team members are Johnna Phillips, Holly Davis, Kara Tucker, Brandy Rickel, Nancy Blankenship, Krisha Woods, Trisha Haines, Anina Gast, Lisa Harger, Amy Conliff, Monica Morrow, Emily Cripe and Summer Groninger. Coaches are Dick Cripe, Greg Davis and Steve Tucker.

September 6 1980

    Mr. and Mrs. Harold French, Warsaw, announced the engagements of their three daughters, Susan Marguerite to Richard Lee Aderman, Mary Maethrone to Lt. Raymond Robert Trombadore Jr., and Elizabeth Ann to James Alan Milliman. The three sisters are planning a triple wedding ceremony for Dec. 20 at the Pleasant View Community Church with the Rev. Ivan French officiating.

September 6 1955

    John Funk, of Warsaw, and Donald Sand, of Winona Lake, were among 30 new state police troopers who were sworn into service at state police headquarters in Indianapolis.

Both were assigned to the Ligonier district and will start their patrol duties in this area. They recently completed a course of training at Indiana University.

September 6 1930

    School starts next week and the first 100 children purchasing $1 worth of school stockings or school clothing at Bolinger's will receive absolutely free a novel pencil box containing a pencil, ruler, pen and point.

Richelieu, ribbed, sand color school stockings, two pairs, 35 cents; Jacquard patterned fancy school stocking, 25 cents per pair; middies, of white jeans, regulation long sleeve style, $1 each; gym bloomers, extra well made, full pleated, $1 each; children's satin bloomers, 39 cents each; and knickers, boys' mixed wool, tan and gray mixed, 89 cents.
