    Rory Callaghan, a 1990 graduate of WCHS, recently placed third in a 25K open water swim meet in Rome, Italy.

Callaghan, a senior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, covered the 25K course in the Pan-Pacific and Pre-World Championship in a time of seven hours and 19 minutes. He earned a third-place medal out of 40 swimmers representing 10 countries in the international competition.

    Four Kosciusko County residents are expected to play key roles in Indiana Central's football program the fall. They are 1975 Wawasee graduate Dave Wollman, 1977 Warsaw grad Jeff Miner, 1975 Warsaw grad Tony Boley and 1976 Wawasee grad Ralph Reiff. Wollman and Miller are starting defensive tackles and played key roles in the 31-7 victory over Franklin last week. Reiff kicked two extra points and field goals in the game, while Boley rushed for 87 yards in only four carries - including a 71-yard touchdown gallop.

    Reed Taylor Jr., of Etna Green, a freshman student at Purdue University, has received extra credits because of excellence in English composition. On the basis of high orientation scores, he was assigned to English 32, an advanced course in freshman composition. At the successful completion of this course with a higher than minimum passing grade at the end of the second semester, he was awarded six hours of credit in English instead of the usual three.

    The state highway police have just finished their pistol shooting contest at Shelbyville.

Officer Harley Person, son of William Person, of Hoffman Lake, won second in the contest, Person shooting 47 out of a possible 60, at a distance of 100 yards.
