CLAYPOOL - Donald K. Wiesehan, 43, of Claypool, a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army Reserve, won first place in two international championship competitions Aug. 21 and 22 in Valparaiso - the standard pistol competition, in which a set number of shots is fired in a specific time period; and center fire pistol competition, where shooting is tested in two precision phases of 30 shots.
Awards were given recently for a children's fishing contest sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary to the Tippecanoe Lake Property Owners Association.
Susan Hay, the daughter of Winona Lake Police Chief and Mrs. Robert (Link) Hay, has enrolled in the St. Vincent Hospital at Indianapolis, where she will take nurse's training. Hay is a graduate of Warsaw High School.
The Warsaw Epworth League Society won two second prizes in the fruit display for the Methodist Hospital at Fort Wayne held Monday afternoon and evening at Epworth Forest. They won second prize for having the second largest amount of fruit contributed in proportion to their membership. Pierceton society won over Warsaw in this contest by one point. Mishawaka won first in the uniqueness of display contest and Warsaw second. Mishawaka's exhibition was arranged in the shape of a sail boat while Warsaw's formed a Maltese cross.
