September 29 1988

    Eric Nellans, 14, Mentone, is the 1988 National Junior Olympic Figure Gold Medalist. Eric, a member of the East Lake Dance and Figure Club, Warsaw, competed against 14 skaters from all over the United States in winning the national title in men's figure skating in the age 13-35 category. Eric is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Nellans, Mentone, and is a freshman at Tippecanoe Valley High School.

    The Warsaw Tiger football coaching staff has chosen Scott Eggleston back of the week and Jack Summe lineman of the week for their outstanding performances against Concord last Friday.

Eggleston rushed for 75 yards, scored one touchdown and showed marked improvement over previous game efforts. Summe was a standout from his tackle spot, and led the offensive line during several key plays.

September 29 1948

    Mrs. N.W. Powell, who resides with her daughter, Mrs. Edison Vandermark, of near Palestine, was the guest of honor at a dinner party given Sunday in celebration of her 91st birthday anniversary. Mrs. Powell, who is a lifelong resident of this county, lived in this city for the past 37 years. She formerly resided at Leesburg and in the Stoney Point community.

September 29 1923

    Electric lights turned on at 4 a.m. with a view of fooling his chickens into laying eggs, failed of results for "Sandy" Feiser. When the price of eggs mounted to 33 cents a dozen the fowls took a vacation. Then he procured a large cardboard and printed "Eggs 12 Cents a Dozen," and placed it in the henhouse. That evening he collected 144 eggs.
