    Warsaw firefighter Larry Baker is the recipient of this year's County Fireman of the Year award.

Baker, a 13-year-veteran of the Warsaw department, has been instrumental in forming the county's first hazardous materials response team. Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award was Dick Mitchell, a volunteer firefighter from North Webster.

September 29 1975

    Local attorney Robert Bruner will assume the bench as judge of the newly-created Kosciusko County Court, which become effective Jan. 1, 1976.

Appointed by Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Gene B. Lee, Bruner was selected from a group of three possible appointees named by a nominating committee, consisting of two county commissioners and two members of the county bar association.

September 29 1950

    Athletic Director George Fisher, starting his 25th year as head football coach at Warsaw High School, received a beautiful trophy in a surprise half-time presentation at the Warsaw-Plymouth football game.

The veteran Warsaw mentor received his silver anniversary award from Donna Ford, drum major, who made the presentation on behalf of the high school band. Coach Fisher modestly accepted and spoke a few words of thanks over the loud speaker, stating that it was without doubt one of the nicest things that ever happened to him.

    Apple blossoms were displayed here today (Sept. 18) by Walter Pape, who found them at the Charles E. Kerlin farm near Garrett. Apple blossoms often appear in December but infrequently in September.
