Forest Sponseller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Sponseller, Rt. 2, Pierceton, has been accepted as a 1988 member of the Society of Distinguished American High School Students' honor society.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard "Chub" Smith Jr., 111 Van Buren St., Leesburg, will celebrate the 35th anniversary of their marriage with an open house for relatives and friends to be held Sept. 30 at their home.

State President LaVonne DeVore, of Shelbyville, presided.
Alvin Robinson, South Buffalo Street, attended the annual reunion of the 118th regiment, Civil War veterans, at Plymouth yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Robinson. Each of the survivors, members of what was known as the Persimmon Brigade, was presented with two persimmons, which the delegates wore on their coat lapels.
