    Navy Petty Officer 1st Class George K. Susan is currently aboard the tank landing ship USS Schenectady, homeported in San Diego off the coast of Somalia, to back up an airlift of U.N. troops to the famine-stricken nation.

Susan is the son of George K. Susan, North Webster. He joined the Navy in September 1975.

    Some 70 area girls took part in activities at the Warsaw Girls' Club.

Ping pong winners included Julie Widup, Becky Lindsy and Cathy Polston. In bingo, Eirn Murphy won the four corners games, Terry Brown the blackout and Michelle Polston, Carolyn Howard and Toni Widup the anyway game.

September 27 1952

    Arley Sisk, 65-year-old Sidney resident, had a fisherman's dream come true early Monday evening when he landed a 6-3/4 pound bass while casting at Sellers Lake. Sisk said it took him 15 minutes to land the big fish, which measured 24 inches long and 15 inches in girth. He was casting with a flatfish artificial bait when the bass hit in deep water. Sisk said it was the only fish he caught, but there was more thrill to this one than if he had landed the limit.

September 27 1927

    Wilson Slabaugh, of south of Nappanee, playfully slapped a fellow worker on the back about a month ago, and broke his right arm between the wrist and elbow. Friday at the noon hour while waiting for the time to resume work at the Uline factory at Nappanee, Wilson was playing ball, and in throwing the ball broke his right arm again, this time between the elbow and shoulder.
