Mark Morrison, 44, of Warsaw, has been building a canoe since the summer of 1989. For four long years in his spare time, the DePuy patent counsel has been chipping away at creating an intricate cedar and ash ark, which will, in the end, resemble a long-nose Ojibwa rice harvesting canoe. The completed canoe will measure 18 feet in length and will weigh between 50 and 55 pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Baker, of Rt. 1, Leesburg, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house on Oct. 1 at the home of their son, Delmber "Ben" Baker, Rt. 1, Tippecanoe Lake, Leesburg.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Miller, of North Lake Street, have returned from Cleveland, Ohio, where they spent the past several days attending the 55th national encampment of the United Spanish War Veterans and the Auxiliary convention. Mrs. Miller is past commander of the Indiana USWV.
Dogs from the Dr. J.M. Jennings kennel, which is located on North Lake Street, carried away honors at the annual exhibit of the West Michigan Kennel Club, held at Kalamazoo, Mich. "Gilkey's Queen," a springer spaniel, won first and also a special honor for being the best sporting dog; "Fireman's Bride, a springer spaniel puppy, also carried away a first award; and "Winona War Dance," a cocker spaniel from the Jennings Kennel, won first honor.
